Welcoming and Naming
Ceremony: 28 November, 2003.
While our families were in town for Thanksgiving, we had a welcoming
and naming ceremony for Aditi. This was a chance to introduce her
to our friends and family, and to explain the meanings behind her
names. We also asked friends and family to say a few words on the
occasion. We held the event at the Sonora Cohousing Common House
and had a light lunch following. So many people have been so
supportive since Aditi's birth -- so many thank-you cards to write...

I spoke
briefly about Aditi Sela's namesakes, Edith
Zanrotsky Fields and Sandra Phyllis Snyder Evans. I hope Aditi
will have their style, intelligence, wit and love of family. Both
of these ladies would have liked their feisty great-grandniece and
granddaughter.

Anu spoke about the meaning of the names Aditi ('free, unbounded'
(Hindi); 'little jewel' (Hebrew) and Sela ('rock' (Hebrew)). We
hope that Aditi will be free to follow her passions, supported by
the love of family and friends . Meanwhile I'm trying to calm
Aditi, and failing.
Of course,
Nani is able to immediately calm the baby.
Jack and
Eileen
bless the baby.
Din and
Reena bless
Aditi.
Pete,
Becky and
Shoshana give Aditi the traditional Jewish blessing.
Bob and
Sheila
Press from Scottsdale tell Aditi about her namesake Sandee. We go
back almost 26 years.
Vikram

baby.

Lunch.
