Fifth Month:
13 January 2004 -12 February 2004.
Now things are starting to happen. First, Aditi's weight gain
rate has picked up - in the last month she has put on about a pound
and a half. Also, she is starting to track objects and is
fascinated by bright plastic objects, rattles, even an orange with
eyes,
nose and a mouth carved into it by neighbor Jeanne. She seems to
be calmed by Mozart (good taste) and to be in the kitchen while we are
cooking. We are hoping the last item portends receipt of cooking
genes from Poppy Jack and Naniji Reena. And we think she is
smiling
because she is happy, rather than because she just passed some gas --
see below for proof! Most recently she has begun to laugh and
respond to tickling.
Jan
16th: Naomi and Liz come to visit from Washington, D.C. and upstate NY,
respectively, during a particularly cold snap in the Northeast.
We get some more rest. Here's Naomi and Aditi grooving.
Liz
makes faces to get Aditi to smile...
There's
one!
Jan
22nd: With Elena, Ethan and Ella, who was born in early December.
I am trying to understand the fascination with the ceiling fan, but
have to admit, it's lost on me. Still trying to find my 'inner baby' I
guess...
Dad's wiped, but I'm awake and ready to play!
With Rama Auntie, who came to visit with Jugal.
We pooh-poohed the Boppy when Grandma Eileen brought it
home; but now Aditi seems to really like spending a little time on her
own, watching bright pieces of plastic above her. The rattle in
particular can be used to distract her when she gets wound up.
Aditi digs getting a massage and stretching with Anu.
Beth
and Ajay brought a mobile from Nepal; the bells are fun to grab.
Cuddling
with Mom on a (relatively) cold winter night. The pillow was made
by Naniji.
