Second Month: 13 October-12 November, 2003.

home with Mom: Oct 13thOct 13th: Sprung:  After one month in the NICU, we're suddenly going home.  Relief, and anxiety both.

TMC NICU All-Stars!It would be hard to adequately thank the nurses of the TMC Nursery Intensive Care Unit, but we've tried, in words and in baked goods.  The TLC they provide is the reason babies thrive there; the technology is secondary.  Thanks Margi, Peggy, Nadine, Cory, Mary, Audra, Bethany, Jenelle, Grace, Victoria, Shannon, Connie, Carmen, Chrissy, Jean... who have I forgotten?

Aditi and Anu @ homeAnu and Aditi.  It's good to be home.  Except at 3am when the NICU nurses aren't around to feed her.

first bed: a bathtubShe's still only a little over three pounds, so we keep her securely nested, as in the NICU, and we'll have to limit her exposure to infection.  That probably means very few visitors, if any, and no exposure to crowds, until she's over the 6-8 pound mark.

Aditi's new home? A Laundry basket?A laundry basket?  A crib?  We don't think Aditi cares.  Laundry baskets are cheap.

home officeOct. 15th: Mike's home "office" leaves something to be desired and is full of distractions.  But it beats biking to the Stadium at 3am.

naps between feedingsOct 16th: Napping between feeding/diaper changing/swaddling is key.

I like Mom's homemade slingOct 18th: Aditi likes her sling, homemade by Anu.  In fact, I'm "wearing" Aditi as I write this.  I think she likes the swaddling-like feeling, and it's warm next to Mom or Dad.

hat's too bigOct. 19:  I've got to grow into a lot of these great clothes friends and relatives have sent me.  This hat's from cousins Jon, Nancy and Sam.

cuddling is good!Oct. 20th: Cuddling is good: making up for lost time.

still smallOct 21st: Still very small, but putting on weight steadily.

big yawnOct. 24th:  This is about as close as I get to awake, assuming I'm not startled or feeding.

I like my blanket from Seth, Kim, Will and NateOct 24th: I like my blanket from Seth, Kim, Will and Nate!  Pencil is for scale, not school.

cuddling is good, part IIOct 24th: Cuddling after eating is even better than it was in the NICU.

Neera calming AditiOct 27th: We are learning calming techniques: pacing and jiggling while on her side, in addition to the old standbys, swaddling and cuddling.

Yet another diaper changeOct 28th: Does attitude scale with size?  Or with proximity to the 3am feeding?

Hallowe'enOct 31st: Honorary Grandma Kathy Panfil (Grandma of big buddy Tommy Wright) sent us a lovely and apropos outfit to wear for Hallowe'en.  I think she was a little freaked out when I took this picture.

 Neera's birthday: I    Neera's birthday, II    Neera's birthday, III
Nov. 7th: Aditi's expected date of delivery is close enough to Neera's birthday (Nov. 5th).  Neera's 28, and Aditi is Zero.
